Overview

HPDC-T cells + interferon alfa-2a is an investigational combination immunotherapy being developed for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B (CHB). The therapy consists of autologous dendritic cells (DCs) that are pulsed ex vivo with the Hepatitis B vaccine (HBsAg) to activate and expand antigen-specific T cells. These activated T cells (HPDC-T cells) are then reinfused into the patient to restore the defective HBV-specific cellular immune response. This cell-based component is combined with interferon alfa-2a, a recombinant cytokine that exerts broad antiviral and immunomodulatory effects. The combination aims to enhance the clearance of HBV by simultaneously stimulating innate immune signaling and restoring adaptive T-cell immunity. It has been evaluated in Phase 1/2 clinical trials by the Third Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, specifically targeting patients with suboptimal responses to standard nucleoside/nucleotide analog therapies.
