Valganciclovir is an antiviral prodrug of ganciclovir, primarily approved and marketed as Valcyte, used for the treatment and prevention of cytomegalovirus (CMV) infections in immunocompromised populations; its mechanism of action involves inhibition of viral DNA polymerase following phosphorylation and incorporation into viral DNA, ultimately terminating DNA chain elongation[2][4][6]. The rationale for combination in EBV-driven malignancies is to enhance viral antigen expression (via HQK-1004) and enable the cytotoxic activity of valganciclovir/ganciclovir, targeting EBV-infected tumor cells[5].
