Overview

HSA@PPa-JQ1 is a nanoparticle-based drug formulation composed of human serum albumin (HSA) encapsulating two agents: pyropheophorbide-a (PPa), a photosensitizer for photodynamic therapy, and JQ1, a small molecule inhibitor of the BET (bromodomain and extra-terminal domain) family of proteins (BRD2, BRD3, BRD4, BRDT). The nanodrug is designed to deliver both agents for synergistic anti-cancer effects, with the photodynamic component generating reactive oxygen species under targeted irradiation, and JQ1 inhibiting transcriptional programs that drive tumor growth, primarily through suppression of BRD4-mediated oncogenic pathways. This combination is mainly investigated for tumor therapy, such as in hepatocellular carcinoma and other solid tumors. The formulation utilizes HSA for improved stability, tumor targeting via enhanced permeability and retention (EPR), and biocompatibility.
