Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**HSV-2 VLM + VIT** is a preclinical HSV-2 recurrence and reactivation prevention candidate being developed by **Virothera**. It is a **gene-based therapeutic vaccine / immunotherapy combination** built from two proprietary nucleic acid platforms: **VLM**, a Virus Like Membranes antigen-delivery construct encoding multiple HSV-2 viral entry complex antigens including prefusion glycoprotein components such as gD, gB, gH, and gL; and **VIT**, a Virokine Immune Therapeutic immunomodulatory construct designed to bind CCR5 and other chemokine receptors on regulatory T cells without productive signaling, thereby functionally antagonizing Treg-mediated immune suppression. The combined intramuscular DNA or RNA-based approach is intended to enhance anti-HSV-2 immunity, reduce recurrent disease, and suppress viral shedding. In reported preclinical guinea pig studies, the combination showed stronger therapeutic activity than either component alone, with protection against acute disease and meaningful reduction of recurrent disease and reactivation-associated shedding.
