Overview

Human allogeneic mesenchymal bone marrow cells (aMBMC) is an investigational cell therapy developed by Medstar Health Research Institute for the treatment of advanced heart failure. The therapy consists of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) harvested from the bone marrow of healthy donors. When administered intravenously, these cells are thought to exert therapeutic effects through paracrine mechanisms, including the secretion of anti-inflammatory cytokines, pro-angiogenic factors, and anti-fibrotic molecules. This approach aims to promote myocardial repair, reduce systemic inflammation, and potentially improve heart function, particularly in patients with cardiomyopathy who have undergone left ventricular assist device (LVAD) implantation. The Phase IIa study (NCT02360930) specifically evaluated the safety and efficacy of serial intravenous doses in this high-risk population.
