Human amniotic mesenchymal stem cells (hA-MSC) is an investigational allogeneic cell-based biologic therapy being developed by Yan'an Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University for the treatment of lupus nephritis. These cells are derived from human amniotic tissue and possess potent immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory properties. In clinical development, specifically the Phase 1 trial NCT04318600, hA-MSCs are administered via peripheral intravenous infusion to patients with WHO class III, IV, or V lupus nephritis. The therapy aims to modulate immune cell activity and reduce inflammation in the kidneys, potentially offering a novel therapeutic approach for patients with systemic lupus erythematosus-associated renal disease who are refractory to standard treatments.
