Overview

Urinary-hCG (u-hCG) is a purified form of human chorionic gonadotropin extracted from the urine of pregnant women. It is a biologic hormone used primarily in assisted reproductive technology (ART) to induce final follicular maturation and ovulation in women undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF) or embryo transfer (ET). It acts as an analog of luteinizing hormone (LH), binding to and activating the LH/hCG receptor on ovarian cells. This trigger mimics the natural mid-cycle LH surge, leading to the resumption of oocyte meiosis and subsequent luteinization of the follicle. In addition to its use in female infertility, it is also indicated for the treatment of hypogonadotropic hypogonadism and cryptorchidism in males by stimulating testosterone production.
