human chorionic gonadotropin + follicle-stimulating hormone is a combination hormone therapy used to treat male hypogonadotropic hypogonadism and Kallmann syndrome. Human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) acts as an analog of luteinizing hormone (LH), binding to the Luteinizing hormone/choriogonadotropin receptor (LHCGR) on Leydig cells to stimulate the production of endogenous testosterone, which is essential for masculinization and supporting spermatogenesis. Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) binds to the Follicle stimulating hormone receptor (FSHR) on Sertoli cells, directly promoting the maturation of germ cells into spermatozoa. This combination is the standard of care for inducing fertility in men with gonadotropin deficiency. The Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine has conducted Phase 4 research comparing traditional continuous administration of these hormones against sequential regimens to improve cost-effectiveness and patient compliance.
