Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Factocel VIII is a plasma-derived human coagulation factor VIII preparation developed and marketed by Intas Pharmaceuticals. It is indicated for the treatment and prophylaxis of bleeding episodes in patients with hemophilia A (congenital factor VIII deficiency). As a replacement therapy, Factocel VIII temporarily increases circulating levels of factor VIII, which acts as an essential cofactor for factor IXa in the intrinsic pathway of the coagulation cascade. This interaction facilitates the activation of factor X to factor Xa, ultimately leading to thrombin generation and the formation of a stable fibrin clot. Factocel VIII is administered intravenously.
