Human COVID-19 immunoglobulin (COVID-HIG) is a passive immunotherapy developed by Sinopharm Wuhan Plasma-derived Biotherapies Co., Ltd. for the treatment of COVID-19. It is a biologic therapeutic consisting of polyclonal antibodies purified from the plasma of healthy donors who have been vaccinated with the BBIBP-CorV (Sinopharm) COVID-19 vaccine. The drug contains high titers of neutralizing antibodies that target multiple components of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, including the spike (S) protein, the receptor-binding domain (RBD), the N-terminal domain (NTD), and the nucleocapsid protein. By binding to these targets, COVID-HIG blocks the interaction between the viral RBD and the human angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (hACE2) receptor, thereby preventing viral entry into host cells. It is administered intravenously and has been evaluated in Phase II clinical trials for patients with moderate to severe COVID-19.
