Overview

Gardasil 9 is a non-infectious recombinant nonavalent vaccine designed to protect against nine types of human papillomavirus (HPV). It is composed of purified virus-like particles (VLPs) of the major capsid (L1) protein of HPV types 6, 11, 16, 18, 31, 33, 45, 52, and 58. These VLPs are produced via recombinant *Saccharomyces cerevisiae* fermentation and are adsorbed onto an amorphous aluminum hydroxyphosphate sulfate (AAHS) adjuvant. The vaccine is primarily indicated for the prophylactic prevention of cervical, vulvar, vaginal, anal, and oropharyngeal cancers, as well as associated precancerous lesions and genital warts (condylomata acuminata) caused by the covered HPV types. While standard administration is intramuscular, clinical research is also exploring its therapeutic potential through intralesional injection for the treatment of existing genital warts.
