Overview

The human papillomavirus bivalent vaccine (types 16, 18) is a recombinant prophylactic vaccine developed by Xiamen University and Xiamen Innovax Biotech. Marketed as Xinkenin in China and Cecolin internationally, it is the first HPV vaccine produced using an Escherichia coli expression system, distinguishing it from yeast- or insect cell-based alternatives. The vaccine consists of L1 virus-like particles (VLPs) of HPV types 16 and 18, which are the primary drivers of cervical cancer. It is indicated for the prevention of HPV 16/18-related infections and associated diseases, including cervical, vulvar, and vaginal cancers, as well as intraepithelial neoplasias (CIN, VIN, VaIN). It was approved by China's National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) in 2019 for use in females aged 9 to 45 years.
