V540C is a quadrivalent vaccine developed by Merck Sharp & Dohme (MSD) for the prevention of infections and associated diseases caused by Human Papillomavirus (HPV) types 6, 11, 16, and 18. Marketed under the brand name Gardasil, it is composed of highly purified virus-like particles (VLPs) of the major capsid (L1) protein of each of the four HPV types. These VLPs are produced using recombinant DNA technology in *Saccharomyces cerevisiae* and are adsorbed onto an aluminum-containing adjuvant. The vaccine works by inducing a robust humoral immune response, generating neutralizing antibodies that prevent the virus from infecting host cells. It is indicated for the prevention of cervical, vulvar, vaginal, and anal cancers, as well as genital warts (condyloma acuminata) and various precancerous or dysplastic lesions associated with the targeted HPV types.
