Overview

Human Papillomavirus Quadrivalent (Types 6, 11, 16, and 18) Vaccine, Recombinant-Health Poverty Action refers to a quadrivalent vaccine used in a clinical study led by the NGO Health Poverty Action to evaluate integrated health service delivery in Laos. The vaccine is a recombinant product containing virus-like particles (VLPs) of the L1 capsid protein from four Human Papillomavirus (HPV) types: 6, 11, 16, and 18. Types 16 and 18 are high-risk genotypes associated with the majority of cervical, vaginal, and vulvar cancers, while types 6 and 11 are responsible for most cases of genital warts (condyloma acuminata). By inducing neutralizing antibodies against these specific viral proteins, the vaccine prevents initial infection and subsequent HPV-related diseases. In the trial context, it is administered as a single 0.5 mL intramuscular dose to adolescent girls aged 10-13 to assess whether combining vaccination with sexual and reproductive health education increases overall uptake.
