human papillomavirus type 6 L1 protein, adsorbed is a monovalent vaccine component or investigational vaccine consisting of recombinant L1 major capsid protein from Human Papillomavirus (HPV) type 6. The L1 protein is produced in yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) and self-assembles into non-infectious virus-like particles (VLPs) that mimic the structure of the native virus. The VLPs are adsorbed onto an aluminum-based adjuvant, typically amorphous aluminum hydroxyphosphate sulfate (AAHS), to enhance the immune response. Developed and clinically evaluated in collaboration with institutions like the University of Antwerp, this vaccine is designed to elicit high titers of neutralizing antibodies to prevent HPV type 6 infection. HPV type 6 is a low-risk genotype primarily responsible for approximately 90% of genital warts (condyloma acuminata) and cases of recurrent respiratory papillomatosis (RRP). While now primarily used as a constituent of multivalent vaccines like Gardasil and Gardasil 9, the monovalent form was specifically studied for its safety and type-specific immunogenicity.
