Overview

Cervarix + Engerix-B refers to the co-administration of GlaxoSmithKline's bivalent human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine and its recombinant hepatitis B vaccine. Cervarix is a non-infectious recombinant vaccine prepared from highly purified virus-like particles (VLPs) of the major capsid L1 protein of HPV types 16 and 18, formulated with the AS04 adjuvant system (comprising aluminum hydroxide and 3-O-desacyl-4'-monophosphoryl lipid A). Engerix-B is a non-infectious recombinant DNA vaccine containing purified hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) adsorbed on aluminum hydroxide. This co-administration strategy is primarily evaluated in adolescent populations (typically aged 9–15 years) to simplify immunization schedules. Clinical studies have demonstrated that concurrent administration of these two vaccines is safe, well-tolerated, and does not interfere with the immunogenicity of either component, maintaining high seroconversion rates for both HPV and hepatitis B antigens.
