Human umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cells (hUC-MSCs) are an allogeneic cell therapy consisting of mesenchymal stem cells harvested from the Wharton's jelly of human umbilical cords. Developed jointly by CytoMed and Beike Biotech, these cells are characterized by low immunogenicity, high proliferative capacity, and potent immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory properties. The therapeutic mechanism involves the suppression of T helper cell (TH1) responses, regulation of T and B cell activity, and targeted migration to inflamed tissues, such as the kidneys, via the CXCL10-CXCR3 signaling axis. hUC-MSCs are currently being investigated in Phase 2 clinical trials for the treatment of Class III or IV lupus nephritis as an adjunct to standard immunosuppressive therapy.
