Overview

Human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (hUC-MSCs) are a type of multipotent stem cell derived from umbilical cord tissue, currently being evaluated for the treatment of moderate to severe diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN). These cells are administered via intramuscular injections into the medial and lateral muscle groups of the lower legs. The therapeutic mechanism is primarily paracrine, involving the secretion of neurotrophic factors, angiogenic factors, and anti-inflammatory cytokines that work to repair damaged peripheral nerves, improve local microcirculation, and modulate the local immune environment. The RELEASE-DPN clinical trial, sponsored by Min Long, is a Phase 2 study investigating the efficacy and safety of hUC-MSCs when combined with conventional therapy compared to conventional therapy alone.
