Overview

Human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (HUCMSCs) are multipotent stromal cells derived from the Wharton's jelly of the human umbilical cord. They possess strong immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory properties, including inhibition of natural killer cell, T-cell, and B-cell proliferation, as well as modulation of monocytes and dendritic cell maturation. HUCMSCs secrete factors such as TSG-6 that contribute to tissue repair by reducing inflammation and promoting regeneration in various disease models. These cells are being investigated for a wide range of indications including wound healing, spinal cord injury, osteoarthritis, liver disease (such as decompensated cirrhosis), kidney disease, cardiovascular conditions, neurological disorders, and immune system diseases. They are typically considered investigational products with ongoing clinical trials assessing their safety and efficacy[1][2][4][5][6].
