This is an investigational cell therapy consisting of allogeneic human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (hUC-MSCs) being developed by Limin Rong and colleagues at The Third Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University. The therapy is specifically designed for the treatment of spinal cord injury (SCI), including both complete and incomplete injuries in the early chronic phase. Administered via repeated intrathecal (subarachnoid) injections, the hUC-MSCs exert therapeutic effects through multiple paracrine and cellular pathways, including the inhibition of neuroinflammation, regulation of apoptosis, promotion of revascularization, and the release of neurotrophic factors to facilitate spinal cord repair and functional recovery.
