Overview

This is an investigational cell therapy consisting of human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (UC-MSCs) being developed by Yan'an Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University for the treatment of diabetic nephropathy. The therapy involves the transplantation of mesenchymal stem cells isolated from human umbilical cord tissue, which are characterized by the expression of surface markers CD73, CD29, CD105, and CD90. The cells are administered via peripheral intravenous infusion and are intended to treat diabetic nephropathy through anti-inflammatory, anti-fibrotic, and immunomodulatory mechanisms, as well as paracrine signaling. An early phase 1 clinical trial (NCT04125329) has been conducted to assess the safety, tolerability, and preliminary efficacy of this therapy in patients with type IIa, IIb, III, or IV diabetic nephropathy.
