Overview

Humulin + Mixtard refers to the combined use of two premixed human insulin products for the management of diabetes mellitus. Both are biphasic insulins containing a mixture of short-acting (regular or soluble) and intermediate-acting (NPH/isophane) human insulin produced by recombinant DNA technology. - **Humulin 70/30** contains 70% NPH (isophane) insulin and 30% regular insulin[6]. - **Mixtard** is available in several ratios, most commonly as Mixtard 30 (30% soluble insulin, 70% isophane), but also as other mixtures like Mixtard 40 and Mixtard 50[1][7]. These formulations mimic physiological basal and prandial insulin secretion to control blood glucose in people with type 1 or type 2 diabetes. The mechanism of action involves facilitating cellular uptake of glucose from the bloodstream, suppressing hepatic glucose production, and promoting glycogen synthesis[6][1]. Both products are administered subcutaneously before meals.
