Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Hyaluronic acid + chondroitin sulphate is a fixed combination of two naturally occurring glycosaminoglycans—hyaluronic acid (HA) and chondroitin sulphate (CS)—used in various medical applications. Both components are major constituents of connective tissues and synovial fluid. The combination is used as an oral or intravesical therapy for conditions such as osteoarthritis, interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome (IC/BPS), gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and for ocular protection during cataract surgery. Mechanistically, the combination acts by restoring the protective glycosaminoglycan layer on mucosal surfaces or cartilage, reducing inflammation, promoting tissue repair, and providing symptomatic relief. Clinical studies have shown that this combination can efficiently counteract induced bladder cell damage and inflammation[1][7], improve symptoms in non-erosive GERD with rapid onset[2][5], support joint health in osteoarthritis[4][10], and protect ocular tissues during surgery when combined with sodium hyaluronate[8]. The product is available as a dietary supplement or medical device depending on formulation.
