Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Hyaluronic acid + corticosteroid + glucose is not a single combined drug product, but rather refers to three separate injectable agents being compared head-to-head in a clinical trial sponsored by Tanta University (Department of Rheumatology, Rehabilitation, and Physical Medicine, Tanta University Hospitals, Egypt). The study — registered on ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT07825155) — is a comparative interventional trial evaluating the efficacy of ultrasound-guided injections of hyaluronic acid (HA), corticosteroid (CS), and 5% glucose (dextrose in water, D5W) in patients with mild to moderate carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS). CTS is a peripheral nerve entrapment disorder caused by compression of the median nerve at the wrist. Each of the three agents is administered as a single ultrasound-guided perineural injection to one of three groups of 20 patients each (60 total), and treatment response is evaluated using clinical (Phalen's test, Tinel's sign), electrophysiological, and ultrasonographic findings. The biological target is the median nerve within the carpal tunnel. The modalities are: hyaluronic acid (a biologic/viscosupplement used for lubrication and anti-adhesion), corticosteroid (a small-molecule anti-inflammatory agent), and 5% glucose/dextrose (a hyperosmolar solution used for nerve hydrodissection). None of these agents has a specific brand name tied to this trial, and the combination is not an approved fixed-dose drug product — it is a research-stage comparative study. There is no single active ingredient, as each arm of the trial uses a distinct agent.
