**hyaluronic acid + interferon alfa-2a** is a combination therapy or conjugate that pairs hyaluronic acid, a natural polysaccharide with tissue-protective and targeting properties, with interferon alfa-2a, a recombinant protein with immunomodulatory and antiviral activity. The combination has been investigated especially as a targeted, long-acting conjugate for the treatment of chronic viral infections such as hepatitis C. Hyaluronic acid acts as a carrier to increase liver targeting and extend residence time, while interferon alfa-2a stimulates the innate immune system, upregulates antiviral genes via the JAK/STAT pathway, and suppresses viral replication[2][6]. Enhanced delivery can result in improved induction of immune response markers like 2',5'-oligoadenylate synthetase 1. Interferon alfa-2a is approved for hepatitis B and C, hairy cell leukemia, Kaposi's sarcoma, and chronic myelogenous leukemia. Hyaluronic acid as a carrier may also reduce side effects and improve liver targeting over PEGylated interferon products[2].
