Overview

This is a combination of hyaluronic acid (HA), a naturally occurring glycosaminoglycan with viscoelastic and anti-inflammatory properties, and serratiopeptidase (SRP), a proteolytic enzyme known for its anti-inflammatory and anti-biofilm effects. The combination is typically formulated as nanogels or gels for local delivery to enhance the control of bacterial biofilms and inflammation. Hyaluronic acid serves as a biocompatible carrier that can encapsulate SRP, providing sustained release and improved stability of the enzyme. This formulation has demonstrated enhanced antimicrobial activity against biofilm-forming bacteria such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus compared to free SRP alone. The primary indications are in dental/periodontal therapy (as an adjunct to scaling and root planing) or wound care where both reduction in inflammation and disruption of biofilms are desired[1][4].
