Hyaluronic acid + sorbitol is a combination injectable formulation used primarily for the symptomatic treatment of osteoarthritis, especially in large joints such as the knee and shoulder. The product consists of sodium hyaluronate (a form of hyaluronic acid) combined with sorbitol, a polyhydric sugar alcohol. Hyaluronic acid acts as a viscosupplement to restore the viscoelastic properties of synovial fluid in osteoarthritic joints, providing lubrication and shock absorption. Sorbitol serves as an oxygen free radical scavenger that stabilizes the hyaluronic acid by forming hydrogen bonds and delaying its degradation within the joint space. This prolongs intra-articular residence time and enhances clinical efficacy by reducing inflammation, pain, and oxidative stress-induced chondrocyte apoptosis[2][4][5]. Clinical studies have shown that this combination can provide rapid pain relief (sometimes within days), improve joint function for up to six months after injection, and is generally well tolerated[1][3][4]. It may be administered as single or multiple injections.
