Hyaluronic acid + tranexamic acid (HA/TXA) is a combination formulation that leverages the complementary properties of both compounds. Tranexamic acid (TXA) is an antifibrinolytic drug that inhibits plasminogen activator and reduces plasmin production, while hyaluronic acid (HA) is a wound-healing agent with moisturizing properties. This combination has been studied for various applications including nasal epistaxis treatment, hyperpigmentation management, and osteoarthritis therapy. In nasal formulations, the combination shows enhanced wound healing properties with HA improving the residence time in the nasal cavity. For dermatological applications, HA improves the delivery of TXA to melanocytes by loosening corneocyte packing while minimizing epidermal diffusion, making it effective for treating hyperpigmentation conditions like melasma. In osteoarthritis applications, the combination demonstrates enhanced analgesic and chondroprotective effects compared to HA alone.
