Hyaluronidase + lactated Ringer’s solution is a combination therapy used primarily to facilitate subcutaneous fluid administration (hypodermoclysis) for hydration. Hyaluronidase is an enzyme that temporarily depolymerizes hyaluronic acid in the interstitial space, increasing tissue permeability and allowing for more rapid dispersion and absorption of injected fluids or drugs. When combined with isotonic solutions such as lactated Ringer’s, it enables faster and larger volume subcutaneous infusions compared to fluid alone. Lactated Ringer’s is a sterile electrolyte replacement fluid containing sodium chloride, sodium lactate, potassium chloride, calcium chloride, and water; it serves as a source of water and electrolytes or as an alkalinizing agent. This combination is indicated for rehydration in adults and children when intravenous access is difficult or not preferred[3][5][6]. The mechanism involves enzymatic breakdown of extracellular matrix components by hyaluronidase (targeting hyaluronic acid), facilitating the absorption of the infused isotonic electrolyte solution.
