Overview

A combination of **hyaluronidase** (an enzyme that degrades hyaluronic acid in connective tissue to increase tissue permeability) and **lidocaine** (an amide-type local anesthetic that works by stabilizing neuronal membranes and inhibiting sodium influx, thereby preventing nerve impulse conduction). This combination is used primarily to enhance the **dispersion and absorption of injected local anesthetics and other substances** in tissues. In clinical practice, especially in ophthalmology, dermatology, and various regional or nerve block procedures, hyaluronidase is mixed with lidocaine to speed onset, increase the surface area anesthetized, and reduce tissue distortion during procedures. The enzymatic action of hyaluronidase increases tissue permeability, allowing lidocaine to spread more efficiently. Lidocaine provides the local anesthetic effect, reducing pain sensation in the administered region. This combination is also frequently used in medical aesthetics for urgent management of complications from dermal fillers and in surgeries requiring extensive local anesthesia[3][4][6][7].
