Hybrid therapy is a multi-drug antibiotic regimen used for the eradication of Helicobacter pylori infection. It is designed as a two-phase treatment: the first phase consists of a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) and amoxicillin (typically for 7 days), followed by a second phase where clarithromycin and metronidazole are added to the PPI and amoxicillin (typically for another 7 days). This approach combines elements of sequential and concomitant therapies to maximize eradication rates, particularly in regions with high antibiotic resistance. The regimen aims to reduce the bacterial load with amoxicillin before exposing the remaining bacteria to the other antibiotics.
