Overview

Hydantocidin‐5′‐phosphate is a small molecule and an experimental compound that acts as an inhibitor of adenylosuccinate synthetase. It is structurally related to purine nucleotide biosynthesis intermediates and has been studied primarily as a biochemical tool or research agent rather than for therapeutic use. Hydantocidin‐5′‐phosphate mimics the natural substrates of adenylosuccinate synthetase and binds to its active site; this enzyme catalyzes the first committed step in AMP (adenosine monophosphate) biosynthesis from IMP (inosine monophosphate). By inhibiting this enzyme’s activity—demonstrated in structural studies with Escherichia coli—the compound can disrupt purine nucleotide synthesis pathways[1][3][5]. There are no approved clinical indications or marketed products containing hydantocidin‐5′‐phosphate.
