Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Hydrocodone bitartrate + ibuprofen is a combination pharmaceutical product containing the opioid analgesic hydrocodone bitartrate and the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) ibuprofen. Hydrocodone acts as a centrally acting opioid, primarily targeting the mu-opioid receptor to alter pain perception, while ibuprofen inhibits cyclooxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2) enzymes to reduce prostaglandin synthesis, leading to decreased inflammation and peripheral pain signaling. This drug is used for the short-term management of acute pain severe enough to require an opioid analgesic, in patients where alternative treatments are inadequate. It is primarily indicated for postoperative pain and similar conditions and is not recommended for chronic pain conditions such as osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis[3][5][7][9].
