Hydrocortisone + sodium hyaluronate is a fixed-dose combination product formulated primarily as an ophthalmic solution for the treatment of dry eye disease (DED) and para-inflammation. Hydrocortisone is a synthetic corticosteroid that exerts mild anti-inflammatory effects by modulating immune responses and reducing the expression of inflammatory markers. Sodium hyaluronate, a form of hyaluronic acid, acts as a lubricant and moisturizer, stabilizing the tear film and improving ocular surface hydration. The combination aims to synergize these actions—providing both symptomatic relief from dryness via lubrication (sodium hyaluronate) and addressing underlying inflammation (hydrocortisone). This dual mechanism targets both tear film instability and dysfunctional para-inflammation in DED patients[6][8]. The product has been available in Europe since 2019 under the brand name Idroflog.
