Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Hydrocortisone + urea is a topical combination drug consisting of a corticosteroid (hydrocortisone) and a moisturizer/keratolytic agent (urea). Hydrocortisone acts as an anti-inflammatory by binding to the glucocorticoid receptor and inhibiting inflammatory mediators such as phospholipase A2 and NF-kappa B, leading to reduced swelling, redness, itching, and irritation. Urea acts as a skin softener by increasing moisture content in the stratum corneum through its keratolytic properties. This combination is primarily used for treating inflammation of the skin caused by conditions such as allergic reactions, eczema, psoriasis, or other corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses[1][2][3]. The product does not treat bacterial or viral infections.
