Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Hydrocortisone acetate + bacitracin zinc + polymyxin B sulfate + neomycin sulfate** is a fixed-dose ophthalmic corticosteroid and antibacterial ointment marketed as **Cortisporin Ophthalmic Ointment** and **Neo-Polycin HC Ophthalmic Ointment**. Hydrocortisone acetate suppresses ocular inflammation through glucocorticoid-receptor signaling, while neomycin, polymyxin B, and bacitracin provide complementary antibacterial activity through inhibition of bacterial protein synthesis, disruption of the Gram-negative outer membrane, and inhibition of bacterial cell-wall precursor recycling, respectively. It is used for steroid-responsive inflammatory conditions of the conjunctiva, cornea, and anterior ocular segment when bacterial infection is present or a substantial risk of bacterial infection exists, including selected infective conjunctivitides, chronic anterior uveitis, and inflammation associated with ocular burns or foreign-body injury.
