Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Hydrocortisone acetate + pramoxine is a topical combination medication used for the relief of inflammatory and pruritic manifestations of corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses and for the treatment of discomfort associated with anorectal conditions such as hemorrhoids. It contains hydrocortisone acetate, a low-to-medium potency corticosteroid that exerts anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, and vasoconstrictive actions by binding to intracellular glucocorticoid receptors. The second component, pramoxine hydrochloride, is a topical anesthetic that provides temporary relief from pain and itching by stabilizing neuronal membranes and inhibiting the ionic fluxes required for the initiation and conduction of nerve impulses. This combination is commonly marketed under brand names like Pramosone and Analpram HC and is available in various topical formulations including creams, lotions, and foams.
