Hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin is a combination therapy involving two distinct pharmaceutical agents. Azithromycin is a macrolide antibiotic primarily indicated for bacterial infections. Mechanistically, hydroxychloroquine interferes with lysosomal activity and autophagy in host cells, modulates immune responses by inhibiting toll-like receptor signaling, and may alter endosomal pH required for virus/cell fusion.
