hes + Gelofusine refers to the combined or comparative use of hydroxyethyl starch (HES) and succinylated gelatin (Gelofusine), two synthetic colloid solutions used for fluid resuscitation and volume expansion. Hydroxyethyl starch is a polysaccharide derived from amylopectin, typically used in concentrations like 6% (e.g., HES 130/0.4). Gelofusine is a 4% solution of succinylated gelatin, a modified bovine collagen. These agents are primarily administered intravenously to maintain oncotic pressure and intravascular volume during major surgeries, such as liver transplantation, or in critical care settings.
