hypericin (Soligenix)

SGX302 is a topical formulation of synthetic hypericin being developed by Soligenix as a photodynamic therapy (PDT) for the treatment of mild-to-moderate psoriasis. The drug is applied topically to psoriatic lesions and subsequently activated by visible light. This activation triggers the production of singlet oxygen and other reactive oxygen species (ROS), which induce apoptosis in activated T-cells and keratinocytes that drive the inflammatory process in psoriasis. SGX302 utilizes the same active pharmaceutical ingredient as Soligenix's lead candidate HyBryte (SGX301), which is in late-stage development for cutaneous T-cell lymphoma. The program is currently in Phase 2a clinical development following promising results in earlier psoriasis studies.
