Drug intelligence / Profile preview
A diagnostic imaging combination used for MRI evaluation of lung ventilation and function. Hyperpolarized xenon-129 provides detailed 3D images of ventilated lung airspaces and can quantify lung microstructure and gas exchange, while perfluoropropane (C3F8) serves as an additional inhaled signal source for MR ventilation imaging. The hyperpolarization process significantly enhances the MRI signal of xenon-129 through spin-exchange optical pumping (SEOP), where circularly polarized laser light magnetically aligns xenon nuclei without changing their chemical properties.
