Overview

This experimental cell-based therapy is being developed by researchers at Gadjah Mada University for the treatment of posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) rupture. The treatment involves the transplantation of allogeneic adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (AdMSCs) that have been cultured under hypoxic conditions to enhance their regenerative potential. These cells are combined with a ligament-derived conditioned medium (secretome) and delivered via a fibrin glue scaffold. The therapy aims to promote ligamentous tissue regeneration through both the direct differentiation of stem cells and the paracrine effects of secreted growth factors and cytokines. Preclinical studies in rabbit models (NCT04889963) have been conducted to evaluate its efficacy in enhancing PCL healing.
