Drug intelligence / Profile preview
GenTeal Tears is an over-the-counter (OTC) ophthalmic lubricant used for the temporary relief of burning and irritation caused by dry eyes. Its primary active ingredient is **hypromellose** (hydroxypropyl methylcellulose), a viscoelastic polymer that acts as a demulcent to stabilize the tear film and provide long-lasting lubrication to the ocular surface. GenTeal Tears is specifically formulated to mimic natural tears and often utilizes the **GenAqua** preservative system (sodium perborate), which converts into water and oxygen upon contact with the eye, reducing the risk of irritation associated with traditional preservatives like benzalkonium chloride. It is available in various formulations, including Mild and Moderate, to address different levels of dry eye severity.
