Prosicca sine is a preservative-free ophthalmic lubricant indicated for the symptomatic treatment of dry eye syndrome (keratoconjunctivitis sicca). The active ingredient is hypromellose (hydroxypropyl methylcellulose), a semi-synthetic, viscoelastic polymer that functions as an artificial tear. By increasing the viscosity of the tear film, hypromellose enhances tear stability and prolongs the residence time of the solution on the ocular surface, providing relief from irritation and dryness. The "sine" formulation is specifically designed without the preservative benzalkonium chloride, making it suitable for patients with hypersensitivity to preservatives or those requiring frequent daily applications.
