Drug intelligence / Profile preview
IBX-210 is a novel intravenous (IV) formulation of ibogaine, an indole alkaloid derived from the Tabernanthe iboga plant. Ibogaine has been investigated for its potential to treat substance use disorders due to its unique pharmacological profile. The IV formulation aims to improve safety and reduce pharmacokinetic variability compared to oral administration, offering a shorter and more predictable in-clinic experience. IBX-210 is being developed primarily for opioid use disorder (OUD), with clinical trials planned or ongoing in this indication. Mechanistically, ibogaine acts on multiple targets including dopamine transporter (DAT), serotonin transporter (SERT), kappa opioid receptor, NMDA receptor antagonism, and opioid receptor antagonism[2][3][4][8]. The developer is Atai Life Sciences in collaboration with DemeRx[4].
