Overview

Ibuprofen + diphenhydramine modified-release is a combination drug product developed by Overseas Pharmaceuticals, Ltd. for the treatment of pain and associated insomnia. It consists of ibuprofen, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that provides analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) enzymes, and diphenhydramine hydrochloride, a first-generation H1 receptor antagonist used for its sedative properties. The formulation is designed as a modified-release tablet to provide sustained relief and aid sleep. Development reached Phase 1 clinical trials in China, where it was compared to Motrin IB and Benadryl, but the project was suspended in 2018 due to strategic considerations by the sponsor.
