Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Ibuprofen + famotidine** is an oral fixed-dose combination of ibuprofen 800 mg, a nonselective nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug, and famotidine 26.6 mg, a histamine H2-receptor antagonist. Ibuprofen reversibly inhibits cyclooxygenase-1 and cyclooxygenase-2, reducing prostaglandin production and thereby relieving pain and inflammation. Famotidine reduces gastric acid secretion to lower the risk of upper gastrointestinal ulceration associated with chronic high-dose ibuprofen use. It is approved for relief of the signs and symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis while decreasing the risk of upper gastrointestinal ulcers in patients taking ibuprofen for those conditions.
