Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ibuprofen + magnesium oxide is an over-the-counter (OTC) combination analgesic developed by SS Pharmaceutical (a Sanofi company) and marketed primarily under the EVE brand in Japan. The combination utilizes "Quick Action Technology," where ibuprofen serves as the active pharmaceutical ingredient providing analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antipyretic effects through the inhibition of cyclooxygenase enzymes (COX-1 and COX-2). Magnesium oxide is included as a formulation aid to increase the pH of the gastric microenvironment, which accelerates the dissolution and subsequent absorption of the acidic ibuprofen molecule, leading to a faster onset of pain relief. Additionally, magnesium oxide provides a mild antacid effect that may help protect the gastric mucosa from NSAID-induced irritation. It is indicated for the relief of headaches, menstrual pain (dysmenorrhea), fever, and other common types of pain.
