Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This drug is a topical combination product containing ibuprofen and menthol, developed and manufactured by Basic Pharma Manufacturing. Ibuprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that acts as a non-selective inhibitor of the enzymes cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), thereby reducing the synthesis of pro-inflammatory prostaglandins. Menthol is a cyclic terpene alcohol that serves as a counter-irritant; it stimulates cold-sensitive TRPM8 receptors in the skin to produce a cooling sensation, which helps to alleviate pain through a gate-control mechanism. The gel formulation is designed for topical application to provide localized relief from pain and inflammation associated with musculoskeletal conditions such as backache, rheumatic pain, muscular aches, sprains, and strains.
