Overview

ICG-99mTc-nanoscan + 99mTc-nanoscan is a combination of two radiopharmaceutical tracers used for sentinel lymph node (SLN) detection, primarily in the staging of solid tumors such as melanoma, oral cancer, and penile cancer. The combination includes: - **ICG-99mTc-nanoscan**: A hybrid tracer that combines indocyanine green (ICG), a fluorescent dye for optical imaging, with technetium Tc 99m-labeled human albumin nanocolloid (nanosized particles), enabling both fluorescence and nuclear imaging during SLN biopsy procedures. - **99mTc-nanoscan**: A radiolabeled human albumin nanocolloid using technetium Tc 99m for gamma camera-based nuclear imaging. Both agents are designed to travel via lymphatic vessels to regional lymph nodes after subcutaneous or peritumoral injection. The hybrid tracer allows simultaneous preoperative mapping by scintigraphy/SPECT/CT and intraoperative localization by both gamma probe and near-infrared fluorescence. This dual-modality approach improves the accuracy of SLN identification compared to single-modality tracers[1][2][3][5]. The mechanism relies on passive transport through lymphatics followed by phagocytosis in reticuloendothelial cells within the nodes. Both formulations have similar particle sizes (~80 nm) and pharmacokinetics; they are considered pharmaceutically equivalent except for minor formulation differences[1]. No significant safety concerns have been reported in clinical use[1][2].
